So the latest phishing scam utilizing Google Docs has prompted me to re post this blog about two-step Verification. It is a great way to help manage the security of your email and social media sites. Its easy to do and more importantly its smart. Why make it easy for the bad guys. FYI you can do this for a lot more than just email. I have it set up on my Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and more.
So what should you do? Well you can choose never to use an internet enabled device again – not practical or you can take precautions ranging from how you use these devices to actual hurdles to preventing thefts. Much like you lock your house with a lock, a dead bolt and even a security system. Make it as tough as possible for someone to steal from you.
Two-step verification is a lock of sorts. If anyone tries to access your account from an unknown device, a security ID number will be required to access the account. This code is sent via text message to your primary cell number. Whoever is trying to access the account must get this unique number in order to log in to the account. A security system if you will. If its you than you just put in the code and it lets you into your account. If its a bad guy its a hurdle that probably isn’t worth the effort of climbing.
How to Set Up Gmail 2-Step Verification

How to Set Up Apple 2-Step Verification
- Go to My Apple ID
- Select Manage your Apple ID and sign in
- Select Password & Security
- Under Two-Step Verification, select Get Started and follow the onscreen instructions.
- There is a waiting period as apart of their security measures.
For both Gmail and Apple you will need to have to provide your cell phone number. You can receive the code via text.
